Smith says her passion for photography began in childhood while growing up in San Bernardino, Calif., with the Mojave Desert as her backdrop. Inspired by her mother’s Brownie camera, she became the family historian, documenting memories with Polaroid and 35 mm cameras.

“My interest deepened through middle school darkroom photography, and although education and career pursuits took center stage for a time, photography remained a constant presence.”

A digital camera gifted by Smith’s husband reignited her artistic journey, opening the door to creative exploration, fine art photography, and a commitment to lifelong learning through continued study and professional development.

“Today, I combine technical skill with an artist’s eye to create images that preserve moments and tell meaningful stories. My work has been exhibited throughout the Wabash Valley and beyond, earning several awards, including recognition through an exhibition at the Swope Art Museum in Terre Haute.”

When not behind the camera, Smith serves as a music therapist working with adults with special needs and hospice patients in Vigo County.

“Whether through music or photography, I’m dedicated to helping others connect, reflect and experience the beauty that surrounds them.”
