August Artist of the Month focuses on timeless subjects

Howard Baugues, a lifelong resident of Vigo County, is River City Art Association’s August Artist of the Month.

Six works by Howard accompany his artist statement in the lobby of the Vigo County Public Library at Seventh and Poplar streets in downtown Terre Haute:

“For years, my world was defined by data, structure, and observation as a research analyst in the plastics packaging industry. I use those same analytical eyes to capture the quiet beauty of the world around us.

“As a long-time hobbyist photographer and an enthusiastic acrylic painter over the past year, my work focuses on timeless subjects: expansive landscapes, historic buildings, and weathered covered bridges.

“I am drawn to the stories these structures tell and the way light plays across natural scenery.

“Through both the camera lens and the paintbrush, I strive to preserve the nostalgic charm of our history and the serene spirit of the outdoors.
