Four River City Art Association members received honors in Open Class competition at the 2016 Vigo County Fair at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute.
In the Fine Arts Department, Steve Harrold of West Terre Haute was the big winner taking home Best of Show and Champion ribbons for a painting of his granddaughter titled “Sarah Grace.”
Harrold also received a Second Place for a painting of a fox titled “Busted” and a Third Place for painting of an American Indian titled “Strong Medicine.”
Dian Der Ohanian Phillips of Terre Haute was awarded First Place blue ribbons for her acrylic painting “Still Standing” and a watercolor painting titled “Autumn Dreamscape.”

Also in the Fine Arts Department, Sheila K. Ter Meer received a First Place for her Digital Art entry, “Angry Peacock.”
Valerie Funk of Terre Haute was a big winner in the Open Class Quilt and Photography competitions.
In the Art Quilt category Funk received a First Place, Champion and Grand Champion for her entry titled “Tranquil Valley.”
Funk’s five other First Place honors include “Someone I Once Knew” in the Quilt-Other-Smaller Than 36×36 category; “La Grande Chevron” in the Machine Pieced Machine Quilted category; “Rise of The Phoenix” in the Quilt-Other-Larger Than 36×36 category; “American Tribute” in the Quilt-Other-Larger Than 18 Inches category; and “Butterfly Blessings” in the Wholecloth Baby Quilt category.
Funk’s Photography entry “Old Truck” received an Honorable Mention in the Color Photography-Transportation cateory and “The Red Door” was awarded a Second Place in the Photography-Still Life category.
