1st Place Ceramics-Glass, Edith Acton, Always Spring, at RCAA 12th Annual
The January 2021 virtual art exhibit by the Vigo County Public Library will highlight Terre Haute, Indiana, artist Edith Acton.
Edith is starting River City Art Association’s new year by showing six pieces of her artwork as the Artist of the Month.
Due to the pandemic it is difficult for people to visit the library, so rather than hang the artwork of RCAA’s area artists on their walls they have chosen to put a virtual show on their Facebook page and YouTube channel.
“While we can’t gather in person right now — we can enjoy this video highlighting Edith Acton’s fused glass artwork,” the VCPL says on its YouTube presentation.
Edith has been working in the medium of glass for over 15 years. During this time she has shown her work at most of the local events such as juried shows with RCAA, Wabash Valley Art Guild, Arts Illiana and numerous festivals such as Miracle on 7th Street.
“Always Spring,” one of the six works featured in the library’s AOTM video, received first place in its category at RCAA’s 12th Annual Juried Exhibition in August 2020.
There are many wall hangings made from the fused glass but in addition to wall art there are many creations of small art turned into jewelry. She explains that the jewelry is a fun way to make art that is available to anyone. Her artwork shows an interesting way of using colored glass and turning it into appealing works of art for an office or home decor.
Each piece is one of a kind! Edith said of her wall hangings and wearable art. It is very hard to make two pieces exactly alike due to the way the glass is heated, shrinks, and morphs itself into one lovely, colorful piece of work.
Inspiration for each work comes from her surroundings. Sometimes it is as simple as looking out of a window or walking along a beach to get an idea for a new piece.
It is Edith’s sincere hope that you enjoy her work.
