The 2018 Rose-Hulman Fall Art Exhibit is underway! This year “Through Her Eyes,” a 4-woman invitational show, was selected – with Kari Rajkumar being one of the artists chosen.
A “Meet the Artists” reception is scheduled Thursday, October 18, from 4:30-6:30 pm (Eastern Time) on the 1st and 2nd floors of Moench Hall. Admission is free.
Rajkumar, a primarily self-taught representational artist from Paris, Illinois, in the Wabash Valley, works in a number of media – oil, pastel, graphite and watercolor.
Several of Rajkumar’s works, in both pastel and oil, can be seen on the 1st and 2nd floors of Moench Hall at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (RHIT) until December 20. RHIT is located at 5500 Wabash, Terre Haute, IN.
Rajkumar’s painting “Aaronaut”, a 24 x 24 inch oil portrait, recently won the Bowles Award for Portrait Excellence at the 11th Biennial National Art Exhibition at the Visual Art Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. You may wish to see for yourself why the judge for that show, the prestigious Steven J. Levin, noted, “An unusual work that with a few simple touches adds a layer of meaning that transforms the piece.”
Or, perhaps Ms. Rajkumar’s “Steadfast” (formerly titled “Autumn Walk”) will prove to be the high point of your visit to the RHIT show.
This large 3 x 5 foot oil, done in a more classical style, was also well-received in the Punta Gorda show. Nanette Crist, the Chair of the 11th Biennial NAE, chose this piece to open and feature in a video produced by Charlotte County Florida Weekly. In it, Crist remarks, “. . . he really looks like he, and the horse, could just walk right out of that painting! . . .” To view the video, and to hear what else she has to say about this particular piece, go to https://www.facebook.com/charlottecountyfloridaweekly/videos/1544994038889524/.
