ABOUT THE JUDGE

Rhonda Yochum is a retired Vigo County School Corp. art educator with degrees in photography and fine arts from Indiana State University and Indiana University. The Terre Haute native has studied equine imagery for more than 30 years, experimenting with a wide variety of materials including acrylics, pastels, watercolors and photography. She studied with photographer Ansel Adams and worked with Ruth Bernard as an assistant at the Carmel Valley Summer Photography workshops as well as with Ginger Katherns from the Cloud Foundation, a 30-year non-profit advocacy organization based in Colorado Springs, Colo. After receiving a Lilly grant for the study of wild horses, she traveled for five weeks and documented and created an art exhibition at Swope Art Museum titled Wild Horses Our National Heritage Species. She continues to study wild horses and educate the public about them alongside the Cloud Foundation. Yochum’s work combines mixed media and photography. She currently exhibits her art throughout the local art and equine art communities.
